Lauren Bennis, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey that encourages growth and healing. I work primarily with adults experiencing anxiety, impacts of trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, and family conflict. I also have experience working with LGBTQ+ identity exploration and those seeking a better understanding of themselves and their story. Whether you are looking to explore the difficulties you are going through and develop new coping tools, want to learn more about yourself, or want to break out of unhealthy habits and develop more agency and accountability in your life, I provide a welcoming environment for you to do so. I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from City University of New York, Queens College, and a Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York, Albany. I utilize a holistic and trauma-informed approach to mental wellness. I incorporate psychodynamic, attachment, and inner child work to explore how early relational experiences affect how we navigate as adults. My approach is integrative in that I also pull from CBT, DBT, and ACT to implement tools for coping, regulation, and improving relationships. Through values of empathy, compassion, and cultural sensitivity, I aim to build a non-judgmental, safe, and trusting therapeutic relationship. I am committed to providing a space for you to heal, feel empowered, and develop insights for positive changes to occur. I will always tailor my approach to meet your individual needs, values, and goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I schedule a free, 15 minute phone consultation to determine if we are a good fit before starting sessions. If you would like to move forward after our phone call, we will then begin with an initial intake session which can be 45 minutes to one hour to get to know you, your background, and what brought you to therapy at this time. After the intake session, we can delve into the specific areas you'd like to focus on.
