Getting to know Lauren King

If you’ve been hurt by relationships in your past, you might notice that it shows up in how you connect with others now—whether it’s feeling anxious, always worried about being abandoned, or pushing people away when things get too close. These patterns often come from childhood, but they don't have to define your future. In therapy, we’ll look at how those past experiences shaped how you relate to others, and work on building healthier, more secure relationships. Together, we’ll create space for you to feel more connected and fulfilled in your current relationships. Lauren King is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and is currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, Amelia Rada.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm an advanced level EFT-trained couples therapist, supporting individuals and couples in healing attachment wounds, improving communication, and navigating emotional disconnect. I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ folks using a collaborative approach that recognizes the bigger picture, looking at how systemic oppression may contribute to your experience. I see clients in person in San Francisco, Oakland, and virtually across California. Please reach out to learn more about my availability. I offer sliding scale with the goal of making therapy an equitable investment for my clients. During an introductory call, we will discuss fee to determine what's accessible to you. I do not accept insurance but can submit a superbill for you to be reimbursed by your provider if desired.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I came to this work after personally experiencing the transformative power of therapy. Starting therapy was one of the most meaningful decisions I’ve made—resulting in growth, insight, and a life that feels truly authentic. That same possibility is available to you. As a queer therapist, I specialize in working with LGBTQIA clients to address anxiety, relationship issues, and identity exploration. Our work together will involve exploring difficult patterns, building emotional awareness, and improving communication skills. You can expect greater self-understanding, healthier relationships, and a more authentic, empowered sense of self. My approach is relational and attachment based, with some CBT and self compassion coping skills incorporated as needed. I believe that from a secure therapeutic relationship, you're able to become the most authentic version of yourself. We will also consider your childhood experiences and how they may be impacting your current relationships today.
