Dr. Laurie Nelson, PhD

Psychotherapist
UT
I am a licensed therapist in the state of Utah, based in Draper, and I provide services throughout the state via telehealth. For the past 20 years, my professional focus has been on finding solutions while building resilience in young adults, adults, couples, and families impacted by “real life” situations. My approach I assist individuals in adjusting to changes that occur during challenging times and help them develop new ways of approaching life. My therapeutic approach combines Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Solution-Focused techniques. My focus I work with young adults, adults, couples, and families who have experienced hardships in their personal lives. Difficulties often manifest as anxiety, frustration, and growing tensions within oneself and in relationships. I collaborate with my clients to reach solutions they might not be able to envision on their own. My communication style My communication style is casual and grounded in practicality, patience, and purpose. I follow the pace of my clients, and as our relationship develops and trust is established, we may mutually agree to accelerate the pace toward achieving milestones. My motto is to pace with purpose and achieve better results for my clients. My journey to mental healthcare I have lived a life much like most of my clients, experiencing hardships and achievements, sadness and joy, and disappointment in myself and others. For much of my life, I was fortunate to “figure it out” on my own. At one point, I made a commitment to myself that no one should have to “figure it out” alone. We all need someone committed to helping us when we are at our most vulnerable. My goals for you I work collaboratively with my clients to establish what a better life might look like and how to get there from here. I believe movement is essential to a successful therapeutic outcome.
