Laurie Parsons, LCSW

Laurie Parsons, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NJ
When I was 15, my father passed away. That pivotal loss sparked a lifelong drive to help people who were struggling with their own life-altering moments—folks who felt like me: adrift, overwhelmed, and trying to find their footing but feeling uncertain of who to turn to. While it took time to discover exactly what that path looked like, I spent several years in social services dedicated to helping others. My journey eventually led me to find a home in therapy, and today I work with adults (21+) navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, emotional overwhelm, and major life changes. My approach is warm, grounded, and collaborative. By blending Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and practical mindfulness with a healthy dose of humor, I create a space where you can bring your full self—tears, laughter, and everything in between.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Many people feel powerless to their emotions. We often crave being in control but usually focus our energy on things outside of our control. Using a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and mindfulness techniques, I’ll help you regain your power and focus your energy on what you can actually change. We'll work on challenging your ways of thinking to see other perspectives, I'll help you reframe negative and unhelpful ways of thinking into more balanced and realistic thoughts, and give you the skills you need to be fully in control of your emotions.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In your initial sessions, we'll focus on building trust and comfort in the therapeutic space. Together we will dive into the issues at hand, and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. Many clients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first month or so with improvement as the work continues.
