Laurieanne Abernathy, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
Hello, my name is Laurieanne (Lauri) Abernathy. I graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2012 with a Master's in Community Counseling. I am a National Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, and I have been practicing in Texas for over 10 years. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Brief Therapy in my practice. My goal is to provide a genuine therapeutic relationship with each of my clients and help them feel heard and respected, regardless of the issues or struggles they are facing; this enables them to make positive changes in their lives. I have counseled individuals from 6 years to 99 years of age, as well as couples and families. I am an ally for the LGBTQIA+ community and a strong supporter of equality in all its aspects. I believe everyone is a person, and every person needs to be cared for, validated, and supported throughout whatever they are facing in life. My preference is to focus on the LGBTQIA+ population, mainly because I do not think there are enough allies in the counseling field who have this focus. I have assisted clients with a wide range of mental health issues, such as depression, self-harm, anxiety, grief/loss, social competencies, anger, race, gender, sexuality, religion, and end-of-life issues, to name a few. My goal every time is to be a support and assist clients in making positive changes in their lives.
