“Leah was exactly what I needed! Ive made a permanent weekly slot so that I can continue to see her. Im even driving an hour from my home to her office. Might eventually do virtual visits since she offers that, but I'm more of an in-person, person. ”

Getting to know Leah Van Leuven

Hi, I’m Leah, a therapist at Acceptance Path Counseling. I work with adults who look like they’re holding it together, but feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and stuck underneath. A lot of my clients say they’ve tried everything—therapy, self-help, coping skills—and still end up back in the same patterns. We don’t treat that as a character flaw. We treat it as a signal that your mind and body have been working hard to protect you, even if the strategies aren’t working anymore. My approach is practical, compassionate, and action-focused. We’ll build skills to handle hard thoughts and emotions without letting them run your life, and we’ll get clear on what actually matters to you so your decisions start matching the life you want. The goal isn’t to feel perfect. It’s to feel more steady, more capable, and more like yourself.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can expect me to be warm, honest, and grounded. I’m not here to judge you or “fix” you. I’m here to help you understand what’s happening, loosen the grip of the patterns that keep pulling you back, and build a way forward that fits your real life. We won’t spend months circling the same story without progress. We’ll name what’s showing up, look at what your mind and body are doing in response, and practice new ways of responding that actually work outside the therapy room. I’ll challenge you when it’s helpful, and I’ll slow down with you when things feel heavy. You’ll leave sessions with clarity and concrete next steps—not just insight.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session, we’ll get clear on what’s bringing you in, what you’ve already tried, and what “better” would look like in daily life. We’ll also identify the specific moments where you get hooked—overthinking, panic, shutdown, people-pleasing, procrastination, or emotional spirals. From there, sessions usually follow a simple rhythm: - check in on what’s been happening, - pinpoint the pattern showing up in real time, - practice tools to respond differently, and - choose small, realistic steps to try between sessions. You won’t be given a long list of homework. You’ll get a few focused experiments that build momentum. Over time, the work becomes less about managing symptoms and more about building a life you can actually stay present for—even when stress shows up.
