“The bedside manner is fantastic, and I would recommend talk therapy for most people seeking, however the limited schedule availability does not work with my work schedule. I was also unaware that the clinician was a remote worker, and for the type of therapy I am seeking, I am uncomfortable with unreliable network connections and would prefer in-person care, which is not an available option.”

Getting to know Leisa Watkins

Hi there, I'm Leisa! My name is Leisa Watkins, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with specialties and credentials in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Marital/Couples counseling. I hold a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from Argosy University. I am a trauma-informed therapist who believes trauma does not define a person; it determines behavioral responses and can be healed. Our responses can be altered to become healthier, more productive, and lead to success in relationships and life. My approach I combine EMDR with couples work and individual therapy, treating anxiety and depression using EMDR/EMDR skills, CBT, DBT, Narrative, and Emotive therapies. I utilize Family Systems, Structural, and Strategic therapies with couples, and Ego State, REBT, and Integrated Family Systems with individuals. My focus I enjoy working with couples dealing with past trauma, trust issues, communication strains, and parenting challenges. I also work with dissociation, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, grief, and life changes in individuals and couples. My communication style I prefer that clients see me as nonjudgmental, willing to sit with big emotions, open in communication, validating, and—when desired—challenging of negative cognitions. I believe connection is the primary requirement for a healthy and productive therapeutic alliance. My journey to mental healthcare I was a victim of sexual abuse throughout childhood and struggled for decades with dissociation. I found complete healing from my trauma and felt called to help others overcome challenges and traumas to live their best lives and find joy. I continue this work, despite trying to retire several times, because I love helping others create a new, healthy paradigm for themselves. My goals for you Goals are personal to each individual. If I set your goals, you have no investment in them.
