What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide a safe place for you to learn to let go of perfection and be confident. My mission is to create a safe space for my clients to unpack their hurts and begin the journey of healing. I am a therapist, a school counselor, and a former elementary teacher. I am also a mom to three children adopted through foster care. I use my experiences to help individuals and families experiencing the challenges of adverse childhood experiences and the demands of navigating life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Walking into therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s normal to feel uncertain or nervous. Here’s a little of what you can expect from a session that follows a person-centered, humanistic approach: ?? It’s All About You In person-centered therapy, you are the expert on your own life. The therapist is there to listen deeply, without judgment, and create a safe, warm, and accepting space where you can be yourself. There’s no pressure to “fix” anything right away—this is your space to explore what you’re feeling, thinking, or struggling with at your own pace. ??? Conversations That Feel Real The session might feel more like a genuine conversation than clinical or formal. You can talk about whatever’s on your mind—there’s no script, and you won’t be led through a list of questions unless that’s something you want. Your therapist won’t interrupt or diagnose—you’ll be heard and truly seen. ?? Core Values: Empathy, Acceptance, and Authenticity The therapist brings what Carl Rogers (the founder of this approach) called the “core conditions”: Empathy – They try to deeply understand what you’re going through, from your perspective. Unconditional Positive Regard – You’re met with kindness, not judgment, no matter what you share. Congruence (Genuineness) – The therapist shows up as a real person, not just a professional mask. ?? You Lead the Way You set the tone and direction. Some people come in and talk about current stress, others explore deeper feelings and past wounds, or just sit in silence for a bit—and all of that is completely okay. Your therapist follows your lead, supporting your process, not steering it. ? Growth Happens Naturally Given the right environment, this approach trusts that people naturally tend toward healing and growth. You don’t have to be “told what to do”—you’ll discover your insights, strengths, and solutions over time.
