Getting to know Leonard Shelton

Hi there, I'm Leonard! My name is Leonard Shelton. I was born and raised in Queens, NY. I hold a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Troy University and am a licensed professional counselor in Alabama. I am also a Certified Vocational Evaluation Specialist and a Certified Anger Management Specialist Level II. With 12 years of counseling experience, I specialize in helping clients with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, motivation, self-esteem, confidence, depression, and anger management. Additionally, I focus on Vocational Assessment and Career Counseling. I create a safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. My approach I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and primarily Client-Centered Therapy. My focus I work with veterans, adults, and those with abandonment and attachment issues. I also address Avoidant Personality, men’s issues, forgiveness, infidelity, PTSD, panic attacks, self-harm, self-love, ADHD, workplace issues, social anxiety, phobia, hoarding, and more. My communication style I foster a relaxed environment. Although I work remotely, my goal is to build rapport and make clients feel as comfortable as possible. My journey to mental healthcare I never felt like I had a voice growing up. My parents were nurturing, but I felt some friends and relatives favored my younger brother. Whether true or not, I chose this profession to be a voice for the voiceless. I never want any client to feel voiceless. In my sessions, your voice matters. You matter! My goals for you Together, we discuss your issues and willingness to address them. I guide you as we set goals to help you manage and overcome challenges. My first session with you Clients should expect a therapist who is genuine and wears his heart on his sleeve.
