You used to have it figured out. Maybe it took more effort than it seemed to take everyone else, but you had your routines, your lists, and your ways of keeping everything together. And then suddenly, those things stopped working. Now you're overwhelmed by everyday tasks, forgetting things you never used to forget, exhausted by noise, or wondering why your brain just won't cooperate anymore. Maybe you've been told it's anxiety, stress, or hormones. But something about that explanation doesn't quite fit. Hi, I'm Leslie! I'm a neurodivergent therapist who works with teens and adults navigating ADHD, autism, AuDHD, OCD, anxiety, and trauma. I especially enjoy helping adults who are discovering their neurodivergence later in life, including women navigating perimenopause, burnout, and the realization that they've spent decades masking just to keep up. Sometimes it takes your child getting diagnosed to recognize yourself. Sometimes it's reaching your 40s and wondering why everything suddenly feels harder. You don't need a diagnosis or all the answers to start therapy. You just need somewhere to begin.

Getting to know Leslie Herrguth

What should a new client know about working with you?

Our first few sessions are about getting comfortable, building trust, and figuring out what you'd like help with. No pressure to share your entire life story on day one. Maybe you're exploring ADHD or autism for the first time. Maybe you're navigating perimenopause and wondering why your old coping strategies aren't working. Or maybe you're struggling with intrusive thoughts, trauma, anxiety, or feeling completely burned out. We'll make space for whatever brought you here. Some days we'll unpack difficult experiences. Other days we'll focus on practical tools, understanding your nervous system, or finding ways to make everyday life a little easier. And yes, sometimes we'll laugh along the way! I offer virtual therapy to adults throughout Michigan. You don't have to keep forcing yourself to function in ways that were never designed for you. Let's figure out what actually works for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

First of all, you don't have to mask with me. You don't have to make eye contact the entire time, organize your thoughts perfectly, or worry about whether you're talking too much. You can jump between topics, go on a tangent, laugh about something ridiculous, or sit quietly while you figure out what you want to say. I'm not keeping score. My style is conversational, genuine, and down-to-earth. I believe therapy works best when you feel comfortable enough to be yourself, not when you feel like you have to perform for another person. I also don't believe that every struggle needs to be treated like something that's wrong with you. Maybe you've spent years being called lazy when you were actually overwhelmed. Maybe you've been told you're too sensitive when your nervous system was already working overtime. Maybe you've become so good at meeting everyone else's expectations that you've lost track of what you actually need. We can talk about all of that. I take a trauma-informed, neurodivergent-affirming approach and draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), somatic approaches, mindfulness, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD. That might sound like a lot of therapy terminology, but what it really means is that I don't believe in using the same approach for everyone. We'll work together to understand what's happening, explore the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and find tools that make sense for your brain and your actual life. I want therapy to feel like a place where you can finally exhale, not another thing you're expected to get right.
