805 S Church St, Ste 17, Murfreesboro, TN
My name is Les Parker, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor – Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I hold an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University. I provide therapy for children, teens, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, and the ongoing search for meaning, connection, and stability in their lives. I believe that therapy should be a safe, collaborative, and practical process—one that helps people understand their stories, heal from painful experiences, and discover new ways of living with authenticity and purpose. Before entering private practice, I spent over thirteen years serving individuals and families within the recovery community. During that time, I witnessed both the courage and the heartbreak that accompany addiction and the process of rebuilding life in sobriety. Those years taught me that recovery—and healing in general—are rarely linear. They are made up of small daily choices, moments of humility, and countless opportunities for growth. Working with people in early sobriety also revealed a larger truth: beneath nearly every addiction lies pain that has never been safely witnessed—childhood wounds, loss, shame, or unmet emotional needs. I entered graduate school to deepen my understanding of those underlying issues and to learn how to help people move beyond survival into genuine restoration. My education and clinical training emphasized trauma-informed care, cognitive-behavioral approaches, and the integration of attachment theory, mindfulness, and neuroscience. After completing my internship and residency hours, I opened Murfreesboro Counseling Services, a practice devoted to providing ethical, evidence-based, and compassionate therapy for individuals and families in Middle Tennessee.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you begin therapy with me, you can expect a calm, collaborative, and down-to-earth environment where you won’t be judged or rushed. My approach is practical and compassionate—I believe therapy works best when it feels like a conversation, not an interrogation. Together we’ll identify what’s keeping you stuck, explore patterns that no longer serve you, and develop skills to create balance and direction. I integrate evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed care, and mindfulness. Sessions often include grounding techniques, values-based work, and realistic steps to practice between appointments. I’ll meet you where you are, whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, recovery, or simply trying to find purpose again. You set the pace; I help guide the process with empathy, honesty, and encouragement. My goal is that you leave each session feeling understood and equipped—not just heard, but empowered to make meaningful change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we’ll start by talking about what brings you to therapy and what you’d like to gain from it. I’ll review confidentiality, gather background information, and help you identify the goals that matter most to you. Early sessions often focus on relief—learning grounding tools, understanding triggers, and building safety and trust before we dive deeper. As therapy progresses, we’ll begin to look at patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and relationships. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed approaches to help you understand how past experiences shape current challenges. Each session is conversational and structured around your goals. You’ll leave with insight, coping strategies, and small, realistic steps to practice between sessions. Over time, therapy becomes a process of self-discovery—reconnecting with your values, building emotional resilience, and creating lasting change that feels authentic to who you are.
