Hello, I'm Les Parker, LPC-MHSP, NCC, a licensed professional counselor providing therapy to children, adolescents, adults, and families in Tennessee. I believe that therapy should be a place where you feel heard, understood, and supported without judgment. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, OCD, relationship challenges, or major life transitions, my goal is to help you gain insight, develop effective coping skills, and create meaningful change. I take a collaborative and client-centered approach to treatment, recognizing that every individual has a unique story and set of challenges. I work to create a safe environment where clients can explore difficult emotions, identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck, and build practical tools for lasting growth. My therapeutic approach incorporates evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed therapy, and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). These approaches allow me to tailor treatment to each client's specific needs and goals. I have experience working with anxiety disorders, panic attacks, depression, trauma, OCD, grief and loss, ADHD, stress management, relationship concerns, and emotional regulation difficulties. I also work with children and adolescents experiencing behavioral, social, and emotional challenges. I understand that reaching out for help can feel overwhelming, but taking that first step is often the beginning of meaningful change. My goal is to provide a supportive therapeutic relationship where you can feel empowered to heal, grow, and move toward the life you want to live. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward greater emotional health and well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often tell me that they appreciate having a therapist who is both supportive and direct. My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable discussing the challenges that brought you to therapy while also helping you make meaningful progress toward your goals. I believe therapy should be collaborative. You are the expert on your life, and my role is to help you better understand patterns, develop new skills, process difficult experiences, and discover solutions that fit your values and circumstances. I strive to balance validation and compassion with practical strategies that can be applied outside of sessions. I tailor treatment to each client's needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on your goals, I may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed interventions, mindfulness techniques, or other evidence-based approaches. For children and families, I may utilize Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) principles and parent coaching. During our first session, I focus on getting to know you, understanding your concerns, and identifying what you would like to accomplish through therapy. Together, we will develop a treatment plan that aligns with your goals and helps you move forward at a pace that feels manageable. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, OCD, relationship challenges, or a difficult life transition, my hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel understood, challenged in healthy ways, and empowered to create lasting change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach begins with getting to know you as a person, not just a diagnosis or a set of symptoms. During the initial session, we will discuss your current concerns, relevant personal history, strengths, goals for therapy, and any previous counseling experiences. Together, we will identify what is most important for you to work on and develop a plan tailored to your needs. A typical session is a balance of exploration, insight, and practical application. We may discuss current challenges, identify patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, process difficult experiences, and develop skills to help you manage symptoms more effectively. I strive to make sessions interactive and collaborative rather than simply having you talk while I listen. Depending on your goals, treatment may include evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed interventions, mindfulness techniques, or other therapeutic strategies. For clients working through trauma, we may spend time building coping skills and emotional regulation before processing difficult memories. For anxiety, depression, OCD, or life stressors, we often focus on identifying patterns that keep problems going and developing healthier ways to respond. I believe meaningful change happens both inside and outside the therapy room. Because of this, I may suggest exercises, reflection questions, coping strategies, or skills to practice between sessions when appropriate. Throughout the process, I regularly check in on your progress and adjust treatment as needed. My goal is to provide a supportive, structured environment where you can gain insight, build resilience, and create lasting positive change in your life.
