Getting to know Linda Espinoza

Linda Espinoza has been working in the field of mental health for over 10 years. She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from California State University, Long Beach. Her first professional role as an MSW was as a Mental Health Therapist in a South Los Angeles Department of Mental Health Contracted Outpatient Clinic providing intensive mental health psychotherapy to the severely mentally ill, adult and geriatric population. She went on to work with terminally ill and/or homebound older adult population in providing individual and family end of life counseling and case management. At the same time, Linda worked as a group therapist in a Los Angeles County psychiatric inpatient locked facility for the severely mentally ill population. After becoming a licensed clinical social worker, she began her training career as well, at a Skid Row shelter. During her time at a Skid Row shelter, Linda served the mental health community and advocated against the criminalization of homelessness. As a trainer, she provided culturally sensitive training on Mandated Reporting and identifying mental illness courses. She has also served as a field instructor for MSW students and clinical Board Of Behavioral Sciences approved supervisor. She has worked for several years as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist in providing individual and group psychotherapy for Los Angeles County residents. Linda’s connection to the mental health field comes from a deeply personal place — as a first generation female-Latinx born in the USA to Ecuadorian parents and the first person in her family to attend college, she grew up with many of the common challenges that female-Latinx folks face, especially regarding the taboo around mental health. Linda has experience providing psychotherapy to a wide range of people across inpatient, outpatient, and shelter facilities. She’s motivated by seeing her patients make positive changes and have cathartic moments.
