Psychotherapist
2435 Pleasant View Rd, Adamstown, MD
I specialize in somatic methods such as Brainspotting and EMDR. These modalities provide the resourcing necessary for people to safely access traumatic material experienced in childhood and even passed down generationally. Resourcing creates safety, which allows our neurobiology to begin healthy attachment. The work I do is profound in that it allows people to connect to their core self, which is not defined by their symptoms or traumatic experiences. For those new to therapy, other foundational pieces need to be established first to reach these deeper layers. My ideal clients are adults ready to break old patterns that perpetuate symptoms and internal conflict. Whether it's anxiety, depression, relationship problems, or addiction, the root of the problem lies in unhealthy defense responses created to avoid painful unconscious material from early childhood and other traumatic experiences. Traditional talk therapy is limited in its results because it doesn't address the root of the problem, which resides in the central nervous system and deeper parts of the brain. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Maryland, which has equipped me with a strong foundation to support clients through these transformative healing processes.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I offer a compassionate present style with gentle challenges that assist to dismantle unhealthy defense mechanisms. Working on root issues to alleviate symptoms has provided consistent relief. By meeting a client where they are and developing realistic treatment goals is necessary to assess ongoing progress.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Usually we assess the concerns bringing the client to therapy and prioritize issues. Next we assess current coping mechanisms and determine which are helpful and explore new tools to practice to decrease ongoing stress. When ready, clients explore Family of Origin history to see where faulty coping was modeled and learned. Finally, somatic therapies are utilized to release these stumbling blocks.
