Psychotherapist

The modality I use the most is CBT Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the most versatile therapy It is based on the theory that what one thinks affects one's emotions, which then results in how one behaves The goal of therapy is to alter the behavior you want to change My approach I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for most patients CBT is based on the proven method of altering how you think about whatever you might be trying to deal with CBT is thoughts affect feelings, which affect behavior I take it one step further: how you talk about a problem directly affects what you think and feel My focus I treat panic attacks/anxiety, depression, grief, adjustment disorder, career counseling, becoming healthier, PTSD, childhood sexual trauma, divorce or breakups, and domestic violence I also work with tobacco use, alcohol use, opioid addiction, co-dependence, and other addictions My communication style I am a thoughtful, gentle therapist If you tell me you don't want to talk about something I ask you about, simply say, "Not right now," or "Let's save that for a later day." I will move on to another area I do not believe in forcing anyone to confront trauma if they aren't ready We will talk about other areas of your life until you are ready to deal with what was the worst for you My journey to mental healthcare Trauma is not measured against what happened to someone else; it is measured by how you react to what happens When both parents had unresolved childhood trauma, they used substances to cope, and their children modeled that behavior Many clients at the two Medication-Assisted Treatment centers where I worked asked if they could be my first patients I told them it wouldn't be possible because my first patient was me I try to find the type of therapy that benefits your problem My goals for you It is all about collaboration We start by identifying the problem(s), setting 2 to 3 goals, and finding 2 or 3 ways to reach those goals.
