Lisa Bettis, LCSW

Lisa Bettis, LCSW

Psychotherapist
OR
My name is Lisa Bettis, and I have been a licensed clinical social worker for over 20 years. I earned my Master?s in Social Work from the University of Nevada, Reno. My approach is to listen with compassion and understanding, knowing that when someone takes the step to come to therapy, they do so from a position of strength. Understandably, it can also be very uncomfortable to share so much about yourself with a stranger, and with that, I honor and acknowledge that you have taken that step. My approach Though we all have much in common, my therapeutic approach is to meet my clients where they are. Every client is unique, so I listen carefully to their needs and try to find an approach that resonates best with each individual. My focus Throughout my many years as a therapist, I have worked alongside clients with varied needs. My work in community mental health provided the opportunity to address a broad spectrum of mental health issues. One focus of my work became trauma; however, I have also worked with clients addressing anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, aging, and family issues. My communication style As a therapist, I have a direct communication style and strive to be very honest and upfront with my clients, but I do so gently and with humor. My journey to mental healthcare Growing up in a very chaotic and dysfunctional family, I was assigned a therapist by the courts. My experience with those therapists left me feeling angry and betrayed. From that experience, I hoped to bring better understanding and compassion to children and families with similar backgrounds. My goals for you Collaboratively, I look to the first thing each client says as their reason for coming to therapy, and then I work with the client to hone that into a goal or a set of goals. My first session with you During our first session together, we will exchange basic information about each other, complete an assessment, and begin the process of deciding what our treatment goals are.

Unfortunately, I found this therapist to be dismissive and unsupportive, leaving me feeling invalidated in my challenges. This was not the right fit for me.
