Psychotherapist
36 Cooksboro Rd, Troy, NY
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with Diagnostic Privilege, I believe meaningful change begins with understanding — not only the symptoms you're experiencing, but also the experiences, relationships, and patterns that have shaped them. I work with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, panic disorder, chronic stress, ADHD, OCD, burnout, grief, life transitions, and relationship concerns. I have a particular interest in supporting healthcare professionals, first responders, executives, and individuals facing high levels of personal or professional responsibility, while welcoming adults from all walks of life. My approach is collaborative, practical, and grounded in evidence-based care. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model, I tailor treatment to each individual using approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), choice theory, neuroscience-informed interventions, mindfulness, and somatic techniques when appropriate. My goal is to help clients gain insight, develop effective coping strategies, and create meaningful, lasting change that extends beyond the therapy room. I believe mental health exists within the context of the whole person. Emotional well-being is influenced by our physical health, relationships, environment, work, and sense of purpose. While my psychotherapy practice stands on its own, I value a holistic perspective and appreciate thoughtful coordination with other healthcare professionals when it supports a client's goals and occurs with their consent. Whether you're seeking support through a difficult season, processing past experiences, or working toward personal growth, I strive to provide a therapeutic relationship built on compassion, curiosity, and respect. Together, we'll work to understand what's keeping you stuck and identify practical steps that help you move toward a healthier, more fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've been carrying things on your own for a long time. My goal is to create an environment where you feel heard, respected, and understood without judgment. Clients often tell me they appreciate a balance of warmth and practical guidance. I won't simply sit quietly and nod, but I also won't tell you how to live your life. Instead, we'll work together to better understand what's contributing to your current challenges, identify patterns that may no longer be serving you, and develop strategies that fit your values and goals. I believe therapy should be both insightful and actionable. While exploring your past can be an important part of the process, we'll also focus on building skills, strengthening resilience, and making meaningful changes in your day-to-day life. I strive to explain the "why" behind symptoms and treatment approaches so you leave sessions with greater understanding as well as practical tools you can apply outside the therapy room. I believe that lasting change comes not only from learning new coping skills, but from understanding the underlying patterns that keep us stuck. When we understand those patterns, change becomes more intentional and sustainable. Above all, I view therapy as a collaborative relationship. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to bring clinical knowledge, curiosity, and evidence-based guidance to help you move toward the life you want to create. Whether you're navigating a difficult season or seeking long-term personal growth, we'll work together at a pace that feels both supportive and productive.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Every prospective client begins with a 15-minute phone consultation to determine therapeutic fit, mental health goals, and whether my scope of practice is appropriate for them. If it is a match, a client begins with a comprehensive intake where we'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your personal history, current concerns, strengths, and the goals you'd like to work toward. I believe understanding the full picture is essential to developing a treatment plan that is meaningful and individualized. As therapy progresses, we'll regularly evaluate what's working, explore the thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and life experiences contributing to your concerns, and identify practical strategies that support lasting change. Depending on your needs, treatment may include developing coping skills, improving emotional regulation, processing difficult experiences, strengthening relationships, or addressing unhelpful patterns that no longer serve you. My approach is collaborative and flexible. Some clients benefit from structured skill-building and goal-oriented work, while others need more space to process significant life events or long-standing experiences. Most clients find that therapy includes both - developing practical tools while gaining deeper insight into themselves. Throughout the process, I strive to ensure that clients understand not only what we're working on, but why. I believe that education, self-awareness, and evidence-based interventions empower people to become active participants in their own healing and long-term well-being.
