WI
Hi there, I'm Lisa! Lisa Helgeson, MEd; MA LPC [WI 5950-125]. My counseling approach focuses on walking alongside individuals on their healing path in a comfortable, supportive, and safe space. I have a wide range of experience as an educator, counselor, and through life experience. I earned a Master's in Professional Counseling from Liberty University, which deepened my skills and commitment to mental health care. My practice focuses on anxiety, depression, complex trauma, grief and loss, and women's issues. I offer biblical-based counseling for those who desire it. **My approach** My therapeutic approach includes strength-based, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered, adapted dialectical behavior therapy, biblical-based, and eclectic methods. **My focus** I have extensive experience with anxiety, depression, life transitions, interpersonal conflict, complex trauma, abuse, domestic violence, marital problems, codependency, divorce and separation, job stressors, parenting struggles, those impacted by foster care and adoption, grief and loss, spiritual issues, stress-related struggles, and more. I especially enjoy working with women to help them cope with relationship challenges, abuse, depression, anxieties, trauma, and life stressors. **My communication style** One of my goals is to help people feel comfortable sharing their story in a trusting and safe space. Connection is important. Past clients have told me I create this environment both virtually and in the office. **My journey to mental healthcare** Before becoming a counselor, I worked as an inner-city elementary school teacher. During that time, I earned a master's degree in Teaching and Learning from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota (2000). I noticed many children in my classroom struggled with mental health issues, impacting the family system. This was one reason I left teaching to pursue a counseling degree.
