“My mental health and life has changed for the better since working with Lisa. She helped me work through a most difficult situation with kindness, empathy, compassion, and a solid, down to earth approach. I highly recommend her for anyone who is willing to take a dive into the world of family dynamics, and make changes in the patterns (of dysfunction) that stifle personal growth and happiness.”

Getting to know Lisa Leadbetter
My name is Lisa Leadbetter, and I am an LCPC licensed in Maine. I believe connection and a strong therapeutic relationship are everything. I draw from many modalities and techniques but believe the client determines what works best. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, and depression and have extensive experience in communication, self-esteem, and helping people be their best selves.
I earned my MEd in Counseling Education from the University of Maine, which laid the foundation for my approach to therapy.
My approach
I most often use cognitive behavioral therapy as a main approach, with acceptance and commitment therapy, trauma-informed care, and person-centered modalities also central to my work.
My focus
I am comfortable working with diverse issues and backgrounds but especially enjoy working with people who need a therapist who can be direct and ask hard questions. I create a safe, secure place where clients feel comfortable discussing things they cannot elsewhere.
My communication style
From the moment I welcome a client, I am often told I am easy to talk to. I am warm and friendly rather than clinical and reserved. I am often asked, "Lisa, what do you want to know?" My answer is always, "everything!" With permission, I share my thoughts and ask many questions to understand each client’s needs. I believe everyone is the expert on themselves and knows best what they need. I ask many questions to help clients express what they are thinking, feeling, and needing to be their happiest.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am a late bloomer and didn’t start college until my 30s. I have always loved getting to know people on a deeper level. Becoming a therapist felt natural—it is more who I am than what I do. From my first undergraduate class, I was like a kid in a candy store.

Lisa is incredibly compassionate and thoughtful. She is encouraging and kind but is not afraid to ask you hard questions or give you assignments to help you improve your coping skills. Lisa has a way of validating circumstances that guided you to where you are but also helps you discover, fine tune, and use tools to break the cycle. I always look forward to my discussions with Lisa and am incredibly grateful for her walking this path of healing with me.

It took me 3 years just to trust her after everything that I have been through. She has always been supportive, kind and very helpful to me and i am finally making progress after years of suicidal thoughts and depression. Your lucky to have her.
