Lisa Martin, LCSW

Psychotherapist
ND
I am a licensed clinical social worker with two decades of experience working directly with adult clients in a variety of treatment settings. I am a generalist therapist and my primary specialties are working with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, co-dependency tendencies, grief, and life stressors/transitions. My approach I tend to be a "jump right in"/very direct type of therapist and I mostly use Solution Focused and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) methods in my practice. As a social worker, I also believe environment and identity are important factors in who we are, what we struggle with, and the opportunities and roadblocks we might face. My focus I see therapy as a change process and I want to help clients identify what changes they are wanting to make and empower them to make those changes. Life can be difficult to manage and I want to help clients identify their values, behaviors that are compatible with those values, and ways to manage emotional discomfort while actively pursuing the growth they are seeking. My communication style I am a very direct person and tend to take a solution focused approach to therapy. I like to collaborate with my clients to understand their needs and goals for therapy. I like to provide my clients with tangible ways they can reach their goals and assist them creating healthy expectations of self and others while improving general coping skills and strategies. My journey to mental healthcare My initial career goal was to get a degree in math and work in education, however, I also found that I had an interest in psychology and mental health. Eventually, I changed my major to psychology and found that my overall inclination to understand complex math problems also fit well with my desire to understand the human experience. After meeting a clinical social worker and learning more about this area of study, I then decided to earn my master's in social work and pursue my full clinical license.
