Getting to know Lisa White

MATERNAL & WOMEN'S MENTAL HEALTH: Perinatal | Postpartum | Infertility | Loss | Grief | Women's Issues I am a distinguished Licensed Clinical Social Worker for VA residents with over 20 years of professional experience. I hold a Master's in Clinical Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. You will receive the best individualized experience during therapy, with the goal of helping you restore resilience. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, I support clients who have coped with anxiety, depression, infertility, postpartum mood disorders, loss, grief, and chronic medical conditions. What should a new client know about working with you?

My goal is to help you restore resilience. You may be feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges and discouraged by others who just “don’t get it.” Maybe you are in a rollercoaster of emotions or feel stuck like you’re going around the same mountain over and over again. I’m here to facilitate your healing journey and provide you the most appropriate treatment in your time of need. Don’t suffer in silence because you deserve to be heard. Providing more than a place to talk, we will be a team to plan and take action to be where you want to be! I bring a straightforward approach with a nonjudgmental and compassionate style with the goal to create motivation and belief in oneself. I understand the sensitivity of the topics we discuss and the importance of creating a supportive environment. In therapy, I will be an active listener and help you identify areas that need to be rebalanced and together, we will formulate solutions. Yes, you read that right because I don't just listen to your problems. I provide you effective, practical, and valuable tools to apply outside of therapy. It’s important to me that I build a strong and effective therapeutic alliance with you to facilitate client empowerment.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

STEP 1, Initial Consultation/Intake Session. The first step of your journey with me is a 60-minute Intake session to give you an opportunity to share why you are seeking services, ask questions, to evaluate your starting point, including diagnosing, coordinating services, and building out your treatment plan outlining the milestones in your successful journey. Typically information about the client’s history is gathered and assessments are provided. STEP 2, Weekly Individual Sessions (53+ minutes) and periodic self reporting assessments to gauge your progress towards your finish line. Adjust as need the treatment plan and milestones as gains and discoveries are made. STEP 3, Biweekly Individual Sessions (30 to 53+ minutes). Adjust the frequency to biweekly as you successfully reach past the halfway point of treatment milestones and continuously building your confidence and application of tools and strategies shared during your weekly sessions. Adjust the duration as your reach the end of you 3rd Quarter milestones. STEP 4. Celebrate the great accomplishments, reassess progress, and discuss next steps to finalizing your journey. Some may be able to or want to transition to Monthly for up to 3 months and others may be extremely excited at the fact that they've kept their treatment and self-care gains and are fully ready to end their journey as all their milestones have been achieved. Wow, great work! If we've both given it our all, you most likely will not need me again!! You did it! We knew it was in you to make it happen. We're here for you if you ever need us again in the future!!! Congrats for allowing me the opportunity to embark on this amazing journey with you and to celebrate with you moving your mountains (i.e., obstacles and roadblocks) and crossing your finish line.
