Getting to know Lora Small

I firmly believe that every person wants to do their best to cultivate a life that brings fulfillment at any given point in time. From an early age, I was taught not to simply see "a glass half full" but to strive to fill my glass to a level where I could feel a true sense of personal satisfaction. With a Master's in Social Work from the University of Connecticut, I utilize a nonjudgmental approach when working with clients, helping them identify how their life experiences can support them in achieving optimal success.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have been a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience. I work with young adults, older adults, and families who are grappling with the circumstances of life. I believe that it is critical to develop a relationship with you that is authentic and fosters a sense of trust as you begin to engage in the therapeutic process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

From the time of the intake, I will work with you to figure out how to navigate your way back to feeling more centered and to a place where you can become a better version of yourself (or any version that you envision!). I believe in using a collaborative, compassionate, and empathetic approach to meet my clients where they are.

I always appreciate me visits with Lora, she is very professional. And I always love what she has to say.
Lora is an excellent counselor. She helped me solve my problems and gives different perspectives on things I'm going through that allows me to understand my situation more clearly. Thank you Ms. Small!
I have had the privilege of working with Lora, on and off, for over two years. When I first began therapy with her, I was in a difficult place, carrying the weight of past trauma. Within just eight months, Lora helped me make such meaningful progress that I was able to be successfully discharged. Since then, I have returned to her several times for what I call “maintenance work” — because life continues to bring challenges, and I know I can count on her guidance to help me face them with clarity and strength. From the very first session, Lora impressed me with her deep expertise, her understanding of trauma, and her ability to make me feel truly heard and seen. Her compassion, insight, and unwavering support have given me the tools to navigate life more confidently, overcome obstacles, and heal in ways I never thought possible. Lora has been an incredible blessing in my life, and I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a therapist who combines skill, empathy, and genuine care.
I had the privilege with working with Lora for a year, and in that time I made more progress than in the 10 years I’ve been in the therapy game. She helped me work through big life changes (getting married, moving, new job) and develop healthy coping mechanisms by practicing mindfulness and DBT. I was so sad when I moved out of state and could no longer see her, but she did one last pro bono session to make sure my move went ok. I can’t recommend her enough. Love you Lora!
Lora is a wonderful, thoughtful therapist that made me feel listened to and valued in all of our sessions together. She strove to equip me with tools and techniques that I badly needed prior to entering therapy, and would check in with me to keep me accountable. Lora was also happy to pivot the session goals if I had a particular issue or struggle that I wanted to discuss. She was also very flexible with scheduling which was incredibly helpful. Overall I left our regular session cadence feeling dramatically better, and am grateful for all her assistance.
Hi, I've had such a positive experience working with Lora. She's kind, attentive, and truly helps me feel seen and heard. I've noticed real improvement in how I regulate my emotions, and I feel supported every step of the way. Grateful to have found someone who truly cares. Thank you for all you do Lora!
My Lora what can I say? Her work is amazing. She has an innate ability to truly listen while offering nurturing support and a healthy perspective on various scenarios and situations. If you’re looking for a therapist who is compassionate, caring, and genuinely a good person, this is exactly where you need to go to receive the support you deserve.
Lora has been heaven-sent. My husband and I have been seeing her individually and as a couple for about a year, and we’re so grateful. Lora has helped us reconnect, heal, and grow. Each session leaves us feeling more understood and connected. She gives us meaningful assignments, sets clear goals, and follows through with care and wisdom. Lora brings tons of experience, practical tools, and when we ask for it- biblical insight too, which we really value. She’s a great listener, real, and challenges us while creating a safe space. We’ve built trust and openness we didn’t think possible. We always look forward to our sessions and leave stronger every time.
