Loretta Woods, LICSW

Psychotherapist
GA
As a psychotherapist, my work is grounded in both professional training and a personal understanding of life’s challenges. I know that adversity can leave lasting imprints, but I also believe in the remarkable capacity for growth, healing, and transformation. This belief is not only shaped by my clinical experience, but also by my own journey through life’s difficulties, which has strengthened my empathy and deepened my commitment to helping others. I use evidence-based therapeutic interventions—such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and strengths-based approaches—to help clients navigate emotional pain, reframe unhelpful thinking patterns, and cultivate resilience. My approach blends clinical expertise with an appreciation for the power of intestinal fortitude—the inner resolve that enables us to confront challenges and emerge stronger. Whether working through trauma, managing anxiety, coping with loss, or seeking personal growth, I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can feel heard, understood, and empowered. My goal is not only to guide you through the healing process, but also to help you uncover and strengthen the resilience you already carry within.

Getting to know Loretta Woods

As a psychotherapist, my work is grounded in both professional training and a personal understanding of life’s challenges.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I bring to my work both professional expertise and a deeply personal understanding of resilience. As a military veteran, I have witnessed and experienced the impact of chronic trauma firsthand. I know what it means to face hardship, navigate uncertainty, and find the strength to keep moving forward. These life experiences shape how I show up for my clients. I understand that healing is not always linear and that recovery often requires both patience and courage. My role is to walk alongside you—providing evidence-based interventions, practical coping tools, and a safe space to process what you’ve been through—while also believing in your ability to persevere. Clients can expect me to approach therapy with authenticity, empathy, and a steady commitment to helping them harness their own inner strength. I don’t just understand adversity from a clinical perspective—I have lived it, and I know that growth and hope are possible, even in the most difficult chapters.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our sessions, you can expect a balance of support and challenge. My approach is designed to help you gain greater self-awareness and understand how your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors work together to shape your experiences. We’ll explore the patterns that may be holding you back, uncover strengths you may not realize you have, and develop tools you can apply outside of the therapy room. You will be in an environment that is safe, respectful, and confidential—but also one where you will be pushed to grow. I believe meaningful change happens when we step outside of our comfort zone, and I will challenge you to think differently, reflect deeply, and take action toward your goals. Together, we will do the work—not just to address the symptoms you’re facing now, but to build the resilience, insight, and skills that will serve you long after therapy ends.
