What should a new client know about working with you?

My path started with my interest to understand and my desire to be helpful. Working in inpatient, outpatient, residential settings, and private practice have all helped to understand people and their wide array of needs, especially the need people have for connection. First steps led to a BA in psychology and an MA and Ed.S. in Counseling. While providing individual and couples counseling, I continued to pursue education in areas to further support clients, as well as colleagues. The path led to AASECT certifications in Sex Therapy and Sex Therapist Supervisor, Certified Mindfulness Informed Professional, the Approved Clinical Supervisor certification, and the Advanced Trainer certification in the Nurtured Heart Approach. I am grateful for the experiences working at the Institute for Personal Growth for over 24 years providing individual, couples and sex therapy. I have the privilege of getting to know and understand my clients and help them gain personal insight to know and understand themselves. While incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness practices, Gottman, NHA, wisdom of other therapists and my life experiences into my work, I also draw from nature and art. Both nature and art are invitations to be present, notice, feel, and appreciate.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A new individual client and couple can know that I will be present with them where they are in their life when they show up. Together we will explore what they are experiencing and what they want to experience. I admire clients in their willingness and ability to be open in their efforts to improve their relationship with themselves and important people in their life. In the process we will gain insight into what impacts them, how it impacts them, and what they want to learn to do differently. We will practice together ways to gain awareness and apply wisdom from their experiences. They will learn new skills and strategies for approaching life in ways that enable them to experience more of what they desire.
