Getting to know Lotan Sapir

Lotan Sapir is a pre-licensed provider working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Hi, I’m Lotan Sapir, a Mental Health Counseling Intern at Creative Counseling and a second-year graduate student at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. You may be doing well on the outside while feeling very different on the inside. Maybe you are constantly overthinking, putting pressure on yourself, struggling with anxiety or intrusive thoughts, feeling stuck, or finding that no matter how much you accomplish, it never quite feels like enough. You do not have to wait until things become overwhelming to ask for support.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with adolescents, young adults, and adults, with a particular interest in adolescents and young adults. I support clients experiencing anxiety, OCD and intrusive thoughts, depression, stress, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, and performance-related pressure. I am especially interested in supporting athletes, first responders, students, young professionals, and others navigating high-pressure or performance-driven environments. I offer counseling in both English and Hebrew. Sports have been a major part of my life. I played competitive soccer from childhood through college and served as captain of Yeshiva University’s NCAA men’s soccer team. Through those experiences, I became familiar with pressure, competition, setbacks, high expectations, and the tendency to connect our self-worth to how well we perform. That experience shapes the way I approach therapy. I believe you can care deeply about your goals and push yourself toward them without letting your performance or struggles define your sense of self.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My style is warm, collaborative, practical, and nonjudgmental. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based strategies, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD and anxiety-related concerns. I believe therapy should be adapted to the individual rather than expecting the individual to fit one particular approach. You do not need to come to the first session knowing exactly what to say or what your goals should be. We can start with what is happening right now and figure out the next steps together.
