Lucas Randolph, LMSW

Psychotherapist
127 N Lafayette St, South Lyon, MI
I provide in-person and online psychotherapy and counseling for OCD, anxiety, depression, bereavement, grief, men's issues, self-esteem/self-worth issues, substance abuse/addiction, existential concerns and a wide range of other personal, family and marital problems, including couples counseling. Also, I offer a sliding scale for private pay clients. In my view, people who struggle with mental/emotional health do not always fit into the limiting categories of a formal diagnosis. Regardless of whether you do or not, I provide therapy that will reveal the core of your emotional difficulties and will then employ a treatment approach tailored specifically to your unique needs. As a therapist, I understand that each individual is unique and as such, your treatment may look different from anothers. Sometimes that means offering a compassionate ear, other times it means calling you out on self-destructive patterns. My ultimate goal is to help you achieve your mental and emotional health goals. I look forward to working with you!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I employ a kind, but direct approach to therapy/counseling and tend to be solution focused. This is because my experience as a clinician has informed me that being direct and honest with my clients typically yields the best results. I decided to specialize in OCD because I have struggled with it myself and, through my experience, found that it was very difficult to find a therapist who was familiar with OCD outside of the stereotypical compulsive checking or cleaning. This means that I am able to relate with my clients on a personal level, and understand their symptoms and treatments on a professional level, offering a dual perspective, which has proven to be highly effective when working with many of my clients. I also have many years experience in 12-step recovery, which gives me a deep understanding of addiction and the recovery process. I have many lived experiences behind me, and I have worked with a wide variety of demographics ranging from the unhoused to highly affluent communities. I believe that all of this lends itself to me being able to understand each clients unique needs while taking their individual experiences into consideration.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial session typically looks like me asking a bunch of questions and then providing my feedback and asking for yours to get a shared understanding of what the issue is and what you would like to see happen with it. From there, how we proceed depends on your reasoning for attending therapy. For some people that means providing a highly structured plan, while for others, it can mean slowly unpacking and addressing long-term emotional baggage, or a variety of other approaches. I will occasionally check in with my clients to ask for their feedback on whether or not the current treatment is helpful and/or what they woukd like to change, which also helps guide the therapeutic process.
