Getting to know Lucas Santorelli

My name is Lucas Santorelli, and I am a mental health counselor with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Adelphi University. I specialize in working with adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, and ADHD, particularly those who feel overwhelmed, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or unsure how to move forward in their personal or professional lives. My approach to therapy is both practical and compassionate. I believe people benefit most when therapy offers meaningful insight and real-world tools they can begin using right away. In our work together, I help clients develop concrete strategies to manage anxiety, improve focus and executive functioning, reduce emotional overwhelm, and create routines that support long-term wellbeing. At the same time, I recognize that symptoms rarely exist in isolation — they are shaped by past experiences, relationships, expectations, and environments. Because of this, I also create a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with curiosity rather than shame. Many of the individuals I work with have spent years pushing through stress, masking emotions, or feeling like they “should be able to handle it on their own.” In therapy, we slow down and begin to understand not only what is happening, but why — identifying patterns, beliefs, and emotional responses that may no longer be serving them. My style is collaborative, warm, and grounded. I aim to help clients feel truly seen and comfortable expressing themselves openly, while also providing gentle guidance and structure to support progress toward their goals. Whether we are processing difficult experiences, learning skills to manage ADHD-related challenges, or strengthening coping tools for anxiety and depression, my goal is to help clients build greater clarity, self-compassion, and confidence in their ability to create meaningful change in their lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you begin working with me, I want you to know that therapy is a collaborative process — we are a team, and our work together unfolds at a pace that feels respectful, steady, and supportive for you. My goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable being honest, curious, and fully yourself, without fear of judgment or criticism. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, self-critical, or unsure of where to begin, and I see it as my role to help you feel grounded, welcomed, and understood from the very first session. My style is warm, direct, and practical. I believe therapy should help you gain insight into your experiences and provide useful strategies you can start applying in your daily life. You can expect that our sessions will include both reflective exploration — understanding patterns, emotions, and past experiences — and structured skill-building focused on anxiety management, mood regulation, and executive-functioning challenges related to ADHD. I’ll often introduce tools such as cognitive-behavioral strategies, organization and planning supports, grounding techniques, and ways to shift unhelpful thought patterns. At the same time, I place great importance on creating a shame-free space. Many people I work with are used to pushing through stress, minimizing their needs, or feeling like they “should be doing better.” In our work, I encourage openness, self-compassion, and curiosity about your internal world. We talk about not only what you’re experiencing — but how it developed, what purpose it may have served in the past, and what might need to change moving forward. You can also expect that I’ll check in regularly about how therapy feels for you. I welcome feedback and want you to feel empowered to share what is helpful, what feels challenging, and what you’d like to focus on more deeply. Progress in therapy is not always linear — and that’s okay. My commitment is to support you through both growth and setbacks.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At Glacier, the process begins with our intake clinician, who will meet with you for a comprehensive assessment. During this first step, you’ll have the opportunity to share your presenting concerns, your goals for therapy, and any relevant background. Together, you’ll begin initial treatment planning to ensure we have a clear picture of how to best support you. After the intake, I will meet with our intake clinician to review your assessment and develop a personalized approach for your care. From there, we’ll begin individual therapy together. I typically meet with clients once per week, with sessions lasting 45 minutes to one hour depending on your needs. In addition to individual therapy, we can also incorporate family sessions into your treatment plan if that would be helpful. My goal throughout the process is to make sure you feel understood, supported, and equipped with tools you can begin using right away. Therapy is always tailored to you, and we’ll adjust our approach together as your needs and goals evolve.
