What should a new client know about working with you?

The way I approach therapy is to first get to know my client and invite them to ask any questions they might have with me. It is important that clients feel comfortable and secure with the person they are speaking with. I feel that we all have certain strengths that we can use to help us navigate our way through difficult times. Sometimes we need help realizing what are strengths are and need some support to find them and how to turn them into positive coping skills to get through difficult situations. If you are willing to improve how you are handling certain situations and would like to try some different approaches, you will see that there are usually better outcomes. I would very much like to help you through these times. Currently many of us feel that we are living in a world that is different to the one we have been used to and it can be very frightening. Speaking about your thoughts and fears is a helpful way to minimize this. My main objective is to have you feel better after our sessions and have you put your new "tools" to good use.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is simple. I meet my clients where they are in their lives and ask them what they want to improve in their lives. From this point we can begin to make some goals to work on and these goals can change at any time. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and I am very well versed in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. I also believe that most clients can need and want some advice from their therapists and not someone just sitting there asking them "How do you feel about that." I will openly and honestly talk to you about any of your feelings. One of my best qualities is listening and being empathetic to your needs. At times I will ask you to do some homework on a particular problem if it is appropriate.
