Lucinda Loveland, AMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi! I'm Lucinda, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and currently working under the supervision of Cheryl Tarnofsky, LMFT at Resilient Heart Therapy. My journey into therapy began with my own path of self-discovery in my early 20s. I married young and soon became a mom—roles that brought deep joy but also revealed how unprepared I was for the emotional demands of relationships and parenting. Determined to grow, my husband and I began attending Relationship Education (RE) workshops nearly two decades ago. That experience changed the course of my life. For the past 15+ years, I’ve taught hundreds of workshops with Healthy Relationships California (HRC), where I’ve had the privilege of working with couples, families, and parents from all walks of life in both English and Spanish. When I work with couples, I help them feel safe with each other and build intimacy and connection in ways they didn't realize they could. My passion for this work is both personal and professional. Having received therapy myself as a child and as an adult, I’ve experienced the power of compassionate support, deep reflection, and evidence-based tools. I believe therapy works best when it’s grounded in authenticity and lived experience. One piece of wisdom that has guided me for years is something a trusted therapist once told me: “A therapist can only take you as far as they’ve gone themselves.” That insight continues to fuel my own growth and the work I do with individuals and couples every day. Whether you're navigating the complexities of your couplehood, adjusting to the challenges of parenthood, or seeking deeper understanding of yourself, I’m here to walk alongside you with empathy, insight, and practical tools that can help create lasting change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

[Please note, we are NOT medication providers] Therapy with me is collaborative, warm, and grounded in science and story. I don’t just treat symptoms—I seek to understand what your nervous system has had to carry and why certain patterns have been hard to release. I hold a clear but compassionate space, especially for people who are used to overfunctioning, overthinking, or caretaking at the expense of themselves. We’ll go at your pace while gently building emotional insight, learning new relational skills, and expanding your capacity to feel safe and connected—in your body, relationships, and role as a parent, if that’s part of your journey. Many of my clients are highly self-aware individuals or couples yet feel stuck—longing for deeper connection but unsure how to access it. I work especially well with cycle breakers, couples and parents striving to raise their children differently than they were raised. Together, we unlearn old patterns and reconnect with the strengths already inside you or your relationship. I believe healing happens at the pace of safety, and I tailor each session to meet you where you are. I bring cultural humility to this work, especially with clients navigating bicultural identities or intergenerational dynamics. Whether you're a first-generation adult, a caregiver, a couple, or someone seeking to feel more whole—you are welcome here.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Prior to our first appointment there will be documents sent to you to fill out via our client portal. We'll take care of checking on your insurance benefits so that the process of billing is smooth and taken care of by the time we meet for the first time. Please be sure to check your text messages and email often as we may need additional information after you book with us here on ZocDoc. Our first few sessions are focused on understanding your history and current struggles—how past experiences may still be shaping your present. From there, we co-create a roadmap based on your goals: breaking an unhealthy cycle, learning how to regulate emotions, or finally feeling at peace in your own body. I typically meet with clients weekly, and together we reassess your needs as therapy progresses. Some clients stay long-term as we move through life’s phases together, while others meet short-term for specific goals. My work is always tailored to you—your story, your values, your healing journey.
