“I attended therapy with Lucon for close to a year to work on managing my anxiety and to help understand and learn more about myself. The work that we did within that year not only helped me learn how to manage my anxiety, but I also learned and started understanding more about the anxiety I would experience. He was patient, receptive, and an active listener. He helped to guide me to some positive resolutions about myself. Lucon is very good at what he does and as he was recommended to me, I would also recommend him to others! ”

Getting to know Lucon Rigaud

Your relationship with your emotions has a profound connection to your spiritual life. Believing in something greater than ourselves is essential for finding meaning and value, whether it’s through family, vocation, truth, or religion. With 12 years as a parish priest/pastor and my experience as a licensed therapist, I’ve guided hundreds on their journey to discover meaning and their true selves. I hold an MSEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. John's University, which informs my approach to care. My method focuses on collaboration, allowing individuals or clients to be copilots in their spiritual or therapeutic quest. This partnership is key in overcoming challenges like anxiety, depression, grief, OCD, and perfectionism. Oftentimes, you might find yourself in a place where you feel dissatisfaction despite your tireless efforts and achievements. Despite the best intentions, obstacles may seem relentless, hindering your progress. You may grapple with fears or the courage to ask for what you truly desire or even question what that truly is. In our search for meaning, healing, and wellness, we can establish a self-actualizing goal that addresses these challenges. I am here to guide you on this journey and am eager to partner with you as your copilot on this long-lasting path.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy usually starts with establishing some trust and getting to talk about what's bringing you in so that you feel comfortable walking the path together. From there, I tend to lean toward being more structured in my therapy and help to offer an evidence-based system that's been shown to get results for more than 60 years now, CBT. It gives us specific questions to answer, skills to practice, and a framework to follow that will give us the guidelines to embark on your journey. It's been the experience of many that they may have had a therapist in the past where the conversation goes on for some time but they're unsure whether any progress is being made. This is on the other side of that. With a strong structure, we know what we're aiming for with a plan to move forward each step of the way. At the beginning of treatment, we'll create a treatment plan and spell out the goals that you have for yourself. I'll keep track of these using the therapy we work on to continually loop back to reintroduce these goals with the skills we practice and the trust we build. My treatment approach is more grounded in the moment and looking forward rather than exploring the past extensively. My passion is helping you where you're at and helping you to progress toward where you'd like to be. We may reflect on the past and inform ourselves from it but most of the work will be done in the here and now with exercises and homework.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions are normally an hour long and I typically book a weekly appointment on the same day and time each week with my clients to help it to stay regular and predictable. Our first session is very different where we interview each other to learn more about the practice and what your goals are. After the beginning sessions are in place and our treatment plan is created, I structure each session with CBT and other approaches to help us make progress. We'll check in throughout treatment to make sure we're on track and adjust where needed.
