Getting to know Lucy Whitelocke

The most rewarding careers are those where you experience the privilege of utilizing and enjoying your innate talents while realizing the added benefit of making significant life changes in others lives. My approach in psychotherapy offers my clients keen understanding, a positive outlook, insight, encouragement, and hope. I place priority on the uniqueness of each individual and their situation, recognizing that above all, people need to feel heard and understood. Of primary importance in the counseling process is creating a trusting and solid relationship with my clients. This, I feel, significantly influences the outcome of therapy. No one needs to feel alone in their experience. Over several years as a marriage and family therapist and a master's addictions professional, my approach acknowledges that even though there are similarities in our human experience that tie us together, our responses to these experiences are unique. Counseling can address the ways that we are unique and the ways that we are similar so we can understand each other, improve our situations, and provide opportunities to enhance our overall quality of life. There are times when you may feel as though life is crashing down on you, causing you to feel overwhelmed or even desperate. I have comprehensively used models of therapy that have been highly successful. These include solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, schema therapy, narrative therapy, and relational therapy. Applied models coupled with genuine caring can offer you valuable tools that help you begin to see improvements in your life and provide hope. I have helped individuals, couples, and families work through perplexing situations by gaining clarity and resolving problems. Somewhere inside of you is strength and resilience! Psychotherapy can help you grab hold of that. I hold a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor's degree from Barry University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You need to feel absolutely certain that you trust, feel truly heard, understood and also experience a relaxed sense of comfort with your therapist. Not only am I competent and very experienced but I am someone who really cares and is truly invested in you and someone who honors your experience as unique and valuable. My success is achieved not only through academic knowledge but knowing how to strategically apply specific therapeutic approaches to your very individual concerns I am an active listener; I want to make sure that I do not miss anything because your words are very important, and they tell your story. I would like to think that the many years of experience have helped me to grow as a person and to become an even more compassionate, keen, curious, and skilled therapist. Several years of experience as a marriage and family therapist have equipped me in gaining proficient theoretical knowledge which provide skills that are effective and sustainable

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Contact and appointments for virtual sessions can be accessed online, email or phone. Once I experienced the honor of talking with you, your primary reason for seeking therapy is identified. An appointment is scheduled usually within 2-4 days. A therapist agreement and consent is reviewed and signed prior to the virtual session. Then we are off to making your life better
