What should a new client know about working with you?

As a bilingual Latina psychotherapist, I proudly hold licenses from the State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences and Florida’s Department of Health, serving as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). My academic background includes a Master’s Degree in Social Work from San Jose State University (SJSU) with a focus on Health and Mental Health. With over 15 years of experience, my professional journey has been devoted to collaborating with diverse communities, particularly the Black and Latinx populations in the Bay Area. I am genuinely passionate about connecting with individuals from all backgrounds and extend a warm and inclusive welcome to everyone seeking support in my practice.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Clients often share that our therapeutic space is one where authenticity and genuine connection thrive. In my approach, silence is replaced with engagement, active listening, and thoughtful reflections. I don't just sit in my chair; I am present, asking questions, and providing interpretations that foster understanding. Together, we delve into identifying limiting beliefs, working collaboratively to reframe habitual thought patterns. Occasionally, I may gently challenge thoughts that may be causing harm, always acknowledging that you are the expert of your own life. Getting to know you on a personal level is crucial to tailoring support where you need it most. I describe myself as an eclectic practitioner, seamlessly weaving together various evidence-based approaches to create a personalized therapeutic experience. Trained in psychodynamic methods, my work is highly integrative, drawing from acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), person-centered, and cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT). Additionally, I incorporate harm reduction, gestalt, mindfulness-based practices, motivational interviewing (MI), trauma-informed, and multicultural frameworks. Recognizing the uniqueness of each individual and their challenges, I understand that no single approach suits everyone. The foundation of effective therapy, in my perspective, lies in a strong client/therapist relationship. Consequently, our journey begins with getting to know you – understanding your challenges, goals, and personal style. Together, we co-create a treatment plan tailored to your needs, fostering a compassionate and empowering therapeutic alliance.
