Dr. Luke Thompson, PhD, LCSW

Psychotherapist
4250 N Marine Dr #230, 230, Chicago, IL
Sometimes we feel as though there is something fundamentally wrong with us: as though we don't belong, or don't matter. In response to these feelings we find ourselves ruminating, isolating, misusing substances, escaping into fantasies or entertainment....and yet the relief is only temporary. I help clients change how they relate to their feelings, such that they live their lives not in reaction to them, but instead in line with their values and commitments. Clients cultivate an accepting, non-reactive stance towards their own internal experience, and, at the same time, clarify what it is that they want their lives to be about. I work from an ACT/DBT perspective. I specialize in working with men, and help run retreats for men a few times a year. My experience living in Buddhist monasteries, practicing various forms of meditation, and studying somatic modalities has also influenced my work. I became a therapist because I wanted to help people live more meaningful lives. I'm not interested in therapy in which you simply rehash the same old stuff, with nothing whatsoever coming of it. I want our work to make the difference that makes a difference, and if we find that it's not making a difference, then we'll need to reexamine our efforts together.
