What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you can expect: • A warm, nonjudgmental space – My priority is that you feel safe, respected, and genuinely listened to. You set the pace, and we move only as fast as you feel ready. • Collaborative, goal-oriented therapy – We’ll clarify what you want from therapy (relief from anxiety or depression, better relationships, healing from past experiences, etc.) and create a plan together. I’ll check in regularly about what is and isn’t working for you. • Evidence-based approaches – I draw from approaches like CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based strategies, always tailored to your personality, values, and cultural background—not a one-size-fits-all model. • Active engagement – I’m not a “nod and smile” therapist. I’ll offer feedback, tools, and gentle challenges when helpful, while always honoring your boundaries. You’ll often leave sessions with something concrete to reflect on or practice. • Respect for your identity and story – I welcome and affirm clients of all backgrounds, identities, and relationship structures. Your lived experience is central to our work. • Clear communication – We’ll talk openly about scheduling, fees, boundaries, and what to expect in and between sessions. I encourage questions about the process at any time. The first few sessions are about getting to know you, understanding what you’re going through, and seeing how it feels to work together. My goal is that you leave feeling a bit more supported, a bit more hopeful, and confident that you have a partner in this process

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process is structured but flexible, so we can adapt it to what you need: 1. Initial consultation / first session We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, your history, and what you’d like to change or better understand. I’ll ask questions about your current symptoms, stressors, supports, and any past therapy. We’ll discuss what therapy with me looks like and make sure it feels like a good fit. 2. Goal setting and treatment planning Together we’ll identify 2–4 clear goals (for example: reduce anxiety, improve communication, process a loss, set boundaries, etc.). I’ll share my impressions and recommend an approach (e.g., CBT, insight-oriented, trauma-informed, skills-based), and we’ll agree on a plan. 3. Weekly or biweekly sessions Sessions typically focus on what’s happening in your life right now, while also connecting patterns from the past that may be shaping your present. I provide tools (skills for managing emotions, coping strategies, communication techniques) and also space for deeper reflection and emotional processing. 4. Between-session support (when appropriate) I may offer brief exercises, journaling prompts, or skills to practice between sessions to help you apply what we discuss. We’ll agree on boundaries around between-session contact (for scheduling or brief check-ins if clinically appropriate). 5. Ongoing review and adjustment Every so often, we’ll step back to review your progress and refine goals as your needs evolve. If life events arise (grief, breakups, moves, job changes), we can temporarily shift focus to support you through those transitions. 6. Transition or maintenance As you meet your goals, we may space sessions out, shift into “maintenance,” or plan for a thoughtful ending to therapy. We’ll talk openly about when it feels right to reduce or conclude sessions and how to maintain your progress. Throughout, my aim is for therapy to feel collaborative, respectful, and grounded in what matters most to you.
