Getting to know Lynette Collins

I provide compassionate, evidence-based psychotherapy for adults and couples seeking support with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and client-centered, with a strong emphasis on creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. I use an integrative therapy model that combines insight-oriented work with structured, evidence-based techniques. This allows me to address both the underlying emotional patterns that contribute to distress and the practical challenges clients face in their daily lives. Treatment is tailored to each individual’s goals, strengths, and life circumstances. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed parts work to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and internal experiences. I also work from a trauma-informed perspective, prioritizing emotional safety, collaboration, and client choice throughout the therapy process. My work focuses on helping clients strengthen emotional regulation, improve self-awareness, build healthier relationships, and develop greater self-trust and self-compassion. I support clients in identifying unhelpful patterns, setting meaningful goals, and building practical skills they can apply outside of sessions. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant teletherapy services to clients in Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana. I am committed to providing ethical, culturally responsive care and creating an inclusive environment where clients of diverse backgrounds and life experiences feel supported. My goal is to help clients experience meaningful growth, emotional healing, and long-term well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should know that I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where they can feel safe to be open and honest. I understand that starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and I take time to build trust and ensure clients feel heard, respected, and understood. My therapy style is collaborative and individualized. I work closely with clients to understand their goals, concerns, and life experiences so treatment can be tailored to what is most meaningful and helpful for them. While I value emotional insight and exploring how past experiences may impact current patterns, I also focus on providing practical tools clients can use in their daily lives. Clients can expect a balanced approach that includes thoughtful discussion, emotional processing, and skills-based strategies. I often incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed parts work to support self-awareness, emotional regulation, and healthier thinking patterns. I also work from a trauma-informed perspective, prioritizing emotional safety, client choice, and collaboration. I encourage active participation in therapy and view clients as partners in the process. Sessions are not about being judged or told what to do, but about gaining clarity, building insight, and developing tools that support long-term growth. My goal is to help clients strengthen self-trust, improve relationships, and feel more confident in their ability to manage life’s challenges. Clients should also know that I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant teletherapy and am committed to providing ethical, culturally responsive, and inclusive care. My priority is to support each client in a way that feels respectful, empowering, and aligned with their individual needs and values.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work with clients begins with a thorough initial assessment to understand their concerns, history, goals, and current stressors. During the first few sessions, I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship while gathering relevant background information, including emotional, relational, and life experiences that may be contributing to current challenges. This allows me to develop a clear understanding of each client’s needs and to collaboratively identify treatment goals. A typical session is structured but flexible, depending on what feels most helpful for the client that day. Sessions often begin with a brief check-in to review current symptoms, stressors, and progress since the previous session. From there, we may focus on exploring emotional experiences, identifying thought patterns, processing past or recent events, or practicing specific skills related to emotional regulation, communication, or coping. I incorporate a combination of talk therapy, insight-oriented exploration, and skills-based interventions. Depending on the client’s needs, I may use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address unhelpful thought patterns, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to support goal-setting and progress, and Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed parts work to explore internal experiences and emotional responses. All sessions are provided through a trauma-informed lens, with an emphasis on emotional safety, collaboration, and client choice. Treatment plans are reviewed and adjusted as therapy progresses to ensure they remain aligned with the client’s goals and changing needs. I encourage open communication and regularly check in about what is working and what may need to be adjusted. My goal is to create a therapy process that feels supportive, purposeful, and tailored—helping clients gain insight, develop practical tools, and build confidence in their ability to navigate life’s challenges.
