Hi there, I'm Lynn! I specialize in Clinical Mental Health and Addiction Counseling using a person-centered approach and the following modalities: ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and CBT, Cognitive Behavior Therapy My approach The most common modalities I use are ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and CBT, Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Because my approach is person-centered, I will draw from other modalities when necessary for the client's well-being. My focus I have worked with the following demographics: Children, 3-15 years; young adults, 15-21 years; Inpatient psychiatric hospital care; Adults of all ages; and Elderly adults up to 98 years. I have used a therapeutic dog with elementary-aged children in schools. I have worked with clients suffering from substance use disorders who have been court-ordered to treatment and those who have chosen long-term residential treatment, ages 12-77 years, Autism Spectrum Disorder - Levels 1, 2, and 3/ ages 3-19. I have contributed to the Biblical and Pastoral Counseling field, which has become my favorite and most comfortable treatment. I am most comfortable treating clients who suffer from isolation; lack of support-family, friends, community. This is often due to substance use, homelessness, poor ability to establish/maintain relationships, foster care system, elderly, bullying, etc... My communication style Warm, I use slow, low tones. I listen and ask many open-ended questions. My journey to mental healthcare My mother and several family members before her were severely traumatized from WWII events and military service. Mental health was not available to any of them, and several suicides resulted. My mother suffered from a number of misdiagnosed/mistreated mental health issues until she died alone. I was fourteen years old when I sought the help of a therapist. I am fifty-five, and I still communicate with this saintly man.
