Getting to know Lynn Gordon

Please anticipate a brief phone call prior to our first meeting to ensure that my approach is compatible with your needs. I offer in-person, phone, and video sessions. Perhaps you are considering therapy because you sometimes feel at a distance from your own life and relationships, experiencing a loss of initiative and aliveness to your experiences. Or you may become overly involved, quick to feel anxious and overwhelmed. In an engaged, supportive, and interactive working relationship, you and I can identify and build upon your strengths and values, lend force and action to your search for meaning and belonging, and resolve emotional struggles. You can learn new ways of coping and managing emotional pressures, change old patterns, and develop new ones. You may want to target a specific issue that involves learning new skills, increasing self-awareness, and adjusting thought patterns and behaviors. Or you may choose to go more deeply into understanding your emotional life to resolve past trauma, work through underlying conflicts and fears, or enhance meaning in life, love, and work—going beyond symptom reduction. Many of my patients find this approach leads them to more purposeful living, where intention, choices, and increased capacity for insight and conflict resolution align for a more grounded, cohesive experience of self and others. I work with adults, 23 and up, who are struggling with intimacy—the push and pull of relationships—trauma, depression, anxiety, and LGBT issues. Most out-of-network insurance plans will reimburse you for a substantial portion of these visits if I am not in network with your plan, and I will assist you with processing your claims. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from New York University and have completed training in psychoanalysis at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis.

I see Lynn regularly and she is an excellent therapist. I had never tried therapy before, but Lynn's sessions were extremely helpful in identifying the psychological roots of my difficulties, and going forward she does a great job at helping me work through them. Absolutely recommend.
This is my 3rd experience with a psychiatrist/psychotherapist, and she is the best to me. She is warm and gets to what matters. I highly recommend her.
Highly recommend. Lynn is immensely helpful and always professional. I original saw her for anxiety but have seen a positive change in all aspects of my life and my relationships.
I've been seeing Lynn for a few years now and I've really seen a lot of positive changes in my life as a result of the work done in session. She is very patient and offers a lot of insights into my thought patterns and behaviors. Overall, highly recommended.
Professional and supportive practitioner who takes the time to understand my situation and get all the details. I'd very much recommend her!
Lynn is an attentive and insightful therapist. She is good at listening empathetically and challenging beliefs that are holding you back. Lynn has helped me deal with long-standing anxiety, bouts of depression and going through a really tough breakup. Thanks to her, I'm now more energetic, I enjoy my day-to-day life and I'm building deeper, lasting connections with my friends.
I have been a patient of Lynn's for several months now. I have seen a few therapists in the past and Lynn has been by far the most effective. She has helped me to better understand the roots of my anxiety/depression, and to approach stressful situations with a healthier, more optimistic perspective. I was a bit uncomfortable at first, as Lynn really pushed me to be open and to dig deep in exploring my issues, but her method has really helped me. Lynn is warm and insightful. I highly recommend her.
I have been going to Lynn for years, and she is absolutely fantastic. She takes the time to understand and listen to what you're saying, and she asks incredibly insightful questions to get you to think about things in a way you might not have considered before. Highly recommend!!
I typically don't write reviews, certainly not ones that are this long, and never anything that could ever harm anyone's professional or personal reputation. However, I do read patient / customer reviews all the time and I rely on them (with a grain of salt) when trying to pick a doctor out of the 100s to choose from. So out of a sense of obligation to folks like me who rely on these reviews, I felt I should share my recent experience with Lynn Gordon on my first and last appointment with her in September 2015. Please remember to take my account with a grain of salt as this was just my one and only experience with Lynn. She may have just been having a bad day, or maybe she just didn't like me personally. I'm sure she's a lovely person outside of this one experience with me: The first 10-15 minutes of my 30 minute appointment with Lynn was spent watching her fumble through outdated photocopies of insurance paper work that she eventually handed to me, then quickly took the papers back when she couldn't explain what they were or why several pages were missing. She also couldn't explain what method of therapy she practices which I only asked as small talk since I don't really know much about the differences anyway. Most surprising though, was that she seemed impatient and generally irritable and short throughout my short time with her. So to adjust, I quickly stopped asking questions and let her do the asking. She asked your basic questions like: Why are you here? What would you like to gain from this experience? Have you seen a therapist before? I told her I was there for general anxiety and that I was looking to explore where that might be coming from. I also told her I'd seen a doctor to get an adderral prescription 2 years ago which I used occasionally at my last job when busy. Immediately after telling her about the adderral prescription, she said she wanted to have a meeting with the doctor that prescribed it to me and followed that up with howhow she couldn't help me. She then asked me what schools I went to. She also suggested at one point that she was "picking up on something" in talking with me but she wouldn't specify what she was "picking up" (this freaked me out). So about 15-20 minutes into our meeting, and before we even discussed any of the reasons I was actually there to see her in the first place, she said she "couldnt help me" and she referred me to another doctor's office. She then wished me luck wish I assumed was a cue for me to get up and leave. So I did and she quickly walked me to the door and said "bye, good luck." Having a therapist tell me she was "picking up on something" and that she "cant help" me was scary and I walked back to my office quite shaken up by my short meeting with Lynn. I quickly called my girlfriend, who reminded me to take the encounter with a grain of salt and that maybe Lynn was having a bad day, or maybe she felt defensive, or maybe she just didnt like or understand adderall. So I let it go, and since I still wanted to talk to someone I called the number Lynn had given me to book an appointment there. Turns out the number Lynn gave me was for a non-profit clinic for people with no insurance who want low cost mental health services from masters students! The yelp reviews for this place were all really poor, but I should say that I do admire their non-profit mission to serve the needy. But all that aside, I was again perplexed as to why Lynn would refer me to a place like that when it was clear that I'm insured by a good provider and that I was obviously looking for good quality services. Eventually, I hopped back on ZocDoc and found another psychotherapist right down the street. He sent me the paperwork ahead of time, which I filled out and handed to him at the very beginning of our first meeting where I asked him a couple of the same questions I'd asked Lynn. My first meeting with him went well, and I've since been to see him on a weekly basis which has been great. So all's well that ends well. My brief meeting with Lynn left me shaken up a bit, especially since I was looking for help when I went to see her. Instead, I left her office feeling even more confused. Her referral to the non-profit clinic was even more baffling. And the general flippant and dismissive way she treated me was really unfortunate to say the least. I really hope my experience with Lynn was an anomaly and that she's generally a goodhearted, patient, and professional person. Unfortunately, she wasn't any of those things on the day that I met her. I'm grateful I was able to quickly use ZocDoc to find another professional to meet with. And I'm grateful for review platforms like this, which give people a voice to share their experiences with one another.

I would highly recommend Lynn to anyone seeking an open forum for introspection and self discovery. Her active listening and structured questioning, candor and astute feedback illuminate the thought patterns motivating many of my actions and behaviors that I had previously taken for granted. Her sessions foster an environment for free-flowing reflection and discussion on topics ranging from the banalities of day-to-day existence to the broader questions and issues underlying them, and she unfailingly dovetails the seemingly mundane into more meaningful observations on deeper themes. Lynn is patient, warm and personable, and scheduling is flexible and prompt.

I've been seeing Lynn for a few months now, and she's great. This was my first time trying therapy and I was hesitant to even start because I had an idea about what therapy would be like (I was wrong) and I never thought I needed it. Lately however, I realized that it might be helpful for me to work through some changes that have been going on in my life and the subsequent emotional pressure. I'm glad I found Lynn, she's helped me work through and process a lot of feelings and issues I could never accurately describe or understand. I have definitely gained a better understanding of myself and am a much happier person for it. I highly recommend Lynn to anyone looking for a therapist.
Lynn is an excellent therapist- she strikes the perfect balance between offering support/reassurance, and guiding you toward new insights. I've seen other therapists in the past, but this is the first time I feel like I am making significant progress toward improving my relationships and actualizing life goals. I highly recommend her!
