Getting to know Lynn Murphy
I believe that everyone has innate strengths as well as strengths they've gained through life experiences that, when tapped, become the catalyst for change. For me, those strengths become the focus of the work I do with my clients. Once someone understands their own strengths and how to use them, the sky is the limit to solving the issues in their life. One of the main reasons I became interested in being a therapist is because of my own experiences with trauma and learning about my own strengths. I hold a Master's in Clinical Social Work from the University of Iowa. Over the last 13 years, I've worked with children and adults who have experienced trauma. For several years, I worked almost exclusively with members of the military (both active and retired), their spouses, and their children. I also have extensive experience working with members of the LGBTQ+ community. I DO NOT PRESCRIBE MEDICATION OR DO MEDICATION MANAGEMENT.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I am very laid back and easy to talk to. I take my work seriously but have a great sense of humor which I believe is important. I DO NOT PRESCRIBE OR DO MEDICATION MANAGEMENT.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I typically allow my clients to decide the general direction of the session. There are times where the client believes that they don't have any ideas where to start and I am more than willing to ask the questions necessary for the client to formulate their decisions. I definitely understand that it takes time for clients to trust a therapist and I never force my clients to discuss anything that they're not ready to talk about.
More information on payments and coverage
My fees are $150 for intake of new clients and $100 per session after initial intake. I accept HSA debit cards. I also take credit/debit cards and Venmo payments. All fees must be paid prior to the beginning of each session. Although I do not accept insurance, I will be happy to provide you with a receipt for your payment to submit to your insurance carrier.
