My approach Taking the first step to seek a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I view counseling as a partnership, an open and transparent environment to discover the best approach(es) to equip clients with the skills and tools they need to gain confidence and better manage challenges they encounter. My focus My focus with clients initially is to build trust and assess immediate needs. Once we address immediate needs, we can move to deeper and targeted work based on their goals and priorities. We work together to build skills, knowledge, and awareness through exercises, resources, podcasts, videos, and talk therapy. It is a true, trusted partnership. My communication style Trust, openness, transparency, non-judgment, safety and unconditional positive regard are my priorities in session. I celebrate the gifts and talents that each client brings and help them embrace who they are. My communication style is supportive, caring, compassionate, and direct. My journey to mental healthcare I was interested in psychology and mental health at a very young age. In my master's program I chose to work with was chronically mentally ill adults. I worked in a day treatment center and a halfway house for post-hospitalized adults. I learned about the empowering role of education in the self-management of mental illness and saw great progress. My goals for you Initially treatment goals are set collaboratively based on a client's presenting issues. We will also set goals weekly to work toward general treatment goals but in smaller steps.
