Getting to know Mackenzie Glassner

I specialize in the struggles embedded within our connectedness. This could be based in relationships with others (think familial ruptures, friendship struggles, and/or issues within romantic relationships), the relationship within ourselves (think self-esteem, lack of boundaries, people-pleasing, lack of identity), and our relationship to the world around us (think nervous system dysregulation and/or trauma reactions).

What should a new client know about working with you?

My clients refer to my approach as personable & approachable, understanding & empathetic, and authentic & present. I’m often found with a mug of tea and a dog cuddled in my lap during sessions, and it’s not uncommon to hear laughter interspersed with our deep healing work. I believe that connection is the foundation of healing. The support I provide is based in Attachment Theory and Relational Therapy. This means that we prioritize creating safety and connection in the therapeutic relationship so that you're comfortable exploring new insights and connections. We'll explore your past relationships and current experiences in order to better understand you. I also practice somatic therapy, meaning we focus on the way our body stores emotions and challenges in order to release some of what we've been carrying. This may look like discussion about the functioning of your nervous system, exploring Parts work and inner child work, and the occasional regulation activity such as deep breathing or tapping.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In a first session, we'll start off just getting to know each other. Therapy is courageous work, and you deserve to feel safely held in the therapeutic relationship. We'll collaborate to determine the goals that must align with your needs, and I'll remind you that this is your therapeutic experience, so you can always ask for whatever you need from our time together. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling seen, and with an idea of the therapeutic relationship we'll continue to build together. Following sessions can look different depending on you and your personality: there may be tears on the hard days, laughter on the easier days (and sometimes on the hard days too!), and lots of deep understanding and connection that leaves you feeling heard and held through it all.
