Psychotherapist
NY
My path to therapy started in an unexpected place. I was volunteering with people with intellectual disabilities. That experience taught me that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to helping someone. You have to get creative, stay open, and find what actually works for each individual person. Those lessons shaped everything about how I practice today. I’m Mackenzie and now I work with teenagers (14+) and adults struggling with anxiety, ADHD, and eating disorders. What I’ve noticed across all these experiences is how often the same themes show up: perfectionism that exhausts you, people-pleasing that erases you, and that painful feeling of not quite fitting in or connecting with others the way you want to. There are so many misconceptions about these diagnoses. ADHD isn’t just about focus. Eating disorders aren’t about vanity. Anxiety isn’t weakness. I love helping people see past the stereotypes to find hope and discover ways they can live meaningful, happy lives, even with these challenges. My style is warm, welcoming, and interactive. I’m not the therapist who sits back silently while you figure everything out alone. I collaborate with you to find solutions that make sense for your life and unique circumstances. If one approach doesn’t work, we try another. And another. Until we find what clicks for you. “What we resist, persists” guides my work. We can’t hate ourselves into change or shame ourselves into healing. We need to learn to work with our struggles, not against them, to build a life that feels good to live. Therapy with me means you’re not alone in this. I’m in the trenches with you and we’ll figure it out together. My biggest frustration is when therapy gets lumped in with cold, clinical medical appointments. The connection and trust between us is what makes this work powerful.
