Hi, I’m Magdalena Lopez, a licensed therapist in Arizona with extensive clinical experience supporting individuals navigating trauma, emotional overwhelm, and the journey of healing. My approach is grounded in compassion and collaboration — I believe that meaningful healing happens not in isolation, but through connection. In our work together, I focus on fostering self-acceptance and recognizing our shared humanity — understanding that pain, struggle, and growth are experiences we all encounter. I have specialized experience supporting individuals managing trauma symptoms, suicidal thoughts, and sustaining recovery through life’s ongoing challenges. While my clinical foundation is rooted in evidence-based practices, my goal is to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and safe to be your full self. I believe in your capacity to grow, to feel deeply, and to evolve — not by becoming someone else, but by becoming more fully who you are.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Before we begin, I want to make sure you feel informed and supported every step of the way — including when it comes to insurance. I understand how confusing insurance plans and copays can be, so I aim to be upfront and transparent to avoid any surprises with billing. I’m in-network with most major health insurance plans and happy to confirm your coverage . That said, I’m not in-network with any Medicaid plans — including AHCCCS (Arizona Medicaid) and Health First Colorado — even if they’re paired with another insurance type. Due to state regulations, I’m unable to see clients with Medicaid coverage. I genuinely wish I could work with everyone, and I know how disappointing this might feel if it applies to you. If so, I truly encourage you to reach out to your plan for a list of in-network providers who can support your needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapeutic Philosophy My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that meaningful change begins with acceptance, not avoidance. Drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I support clients in developing psychological flexibility — learning to sit with difficult thoughts and emotions while staying connected to their values and what truly matters to them. At the core of my work is a client-centered philosophy: I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore, reflect, and grow at your own pace. I meet you where you are, honoring your lived experience and personal strengths. I also integrate evidence-based tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify and shift unhelpful thinking patterns that affect mood, behavior, and relationships. From Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I incorporate skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness — particularly during times of overwhelm or life transitions. Because no single approach fits every person or situation, I take an integrative and flexible approach to therapy. Each session is tailored to your unique needs, combining strategies that best support your growth, self-awareness, resilience, and emotional freedom.
