Getting to know Mandy Lam

My style is warm, collaborative, and spacious. I believe slowing down is often where the real work begins. Many of my clients are high-achieving people who hold a lot together on the outside while quietly feeling anxious, exhausted, or disconnected on the inside, and who aren't used to having a space just for themselves. In our work, you don't have to perform or have it figured out. I'll meet you where you are, and we'll move at a pace that actually feels safe. As a 1.5-generation immigrant, I'm particularly attuned to the layered pressures that come with navigating multiple cultures and expectations. I also offer music therapy as an option for clients who want to access or express emotions in ways that go beyond words.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Sessions are held virtually, so you can join from wherever feels comfortable. I work with adults in New York and New Jersey, and I offer sessions in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. I'm an out-of-network provider, which means I don't bill insurance directly, but I can provide a superbill for reimbursement. Some PPO and EPO plans cover up to 60-80% of session fees. Many clients find that the flexibility and continuity of private pay works well for the kind of depth we do together. If you're curious about fit, I offer a free consultation - no pressure, just a conversation

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with a free consultation to see if we're a good fit. From there, early sessions are about getting to know you - your history, your patterns, and what's brought you to therapy at this point in your life. A lot of traditional therapy stays from the neck up, focused on thoughts and insight. But so much of what we carry lives in the body first -- in the tension you hold without noticing, the way your chest tightens before you even know you're anxious, the exhaustion that doesn't make sense on paper. Our work makes room for that. Drawing on somatic awareness, EMDR, and relational approaches, we pay attention to what your body is already telling you, not just what your mind can explain. Sessions feel like a real conversation. There's room to just talk, and also to go deeper when you're ready. I tailor everything to your goals, so no two clients look exactly the same
