Psychotherapist
MN
Hi there, I'm Marcie! My name is Marcie Goehring, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor based in Minnesota. I earned my Master's in Counseling from Capella University. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)-based techniques. I appreciate CBT because it helps us think more accurately about ourselves and situations. DBT is valuable as it teaches mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and communication skills. My approach My approach to therapy is grounded in compassion and empathy. I view all emotions as important and valid because they signal when we need to make changes, process past experiences, or continue doing things that are helpful. I focus on addressing unhelpful thinking styles through CBT and practicing “walking the middle path” from DBT. I believe using evidence-based techniques is essential. My focus I have experience working with a diverse population across all ages, including individuals experiencing substance use and serious, persistent mental illness. Most recently, I have been working primarily with those facing depression, anxiety, and life changes or adjustments. My communication style I blend validation with motivational interviewing. I do not give advice but rather help clients find their own solutions. I use a person-centered approach, which means understanding that everyone is unique, with their own worldviews, goals, filters, and past experiences. I strive to understand how these factors come together to shape each person's unique personality. My goals for you I like to ask clients: How will you know therapy is working? What specific changes do you want to make in your life? What are some things that can be accepted, and what changes can be made to improve your life?
