Getting to know Margaret Bick

Margaret is a trauma-informed therapist and art therapist in Chicago, Illinois, who provides warm, creative, and client-centered care for adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, identity development, and life transitions. She holds a Master’s in Counseling with a concentration in Art Therapy from Adler University and brings an integrative, compassionate approach to mental health treatment. Margaret combines evidence-based therapy with expressive arts therapy to support clients in ways that fit their needs, preferences, and goals. With a background in fine arts and community service, she believes in the healing power of creativity, cultural humility, and genuine human connection. Her approach is grounded in person-centered care, trauma-informed frameworks, and social justice values. Margaret incorporates both verbal and nonverbal expressive modalities to help clients process emotions, build insight, and move toward meaningful personal growth. She is known for meeting clients with compassion, curiosity, and creativity while fostering emotional safety, empowerment, and respect for each person’s complexity.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you can expect a welcoming, creative space where your full self is honored. As an art therapist, I believe that healing can happen through both words and image-making, and you don’t need to consider yourself “artistic” to benefit. We’ll collaborate to explore your inner world—using conversation, art materials, and mindfulness to uncover patterns, gain insight, and nurture meaningful change. My approach is grounded in compassion and curiosity, and I aim to support you in expressing, understanding, and reconnecting with the parts of yourself that may need care and attention.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is collaborative and shaped by your unique needs, interests, and comfort level with creative expression. In the beginning, we’ll focus on getting to know each other, exploring your story, and identifying the areas you’d like to work on. Together, we’ll set goals and move at a pace that feels right for you—whether that involves talk therapy, art-making, or a combination of both. I draw from evidence-based practices in art therapy and psychotherapy to support your healing process. Throughout our work, I regularly check in to ensure our sessions feel helpful, supportive, and aligned with what matters most to you.
