Getting to know Margaret Hunt

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by stories and language—whether through reading literature, studying French, or listening to the diverse experiences of people around the world. Living abroad deepened my appreciation for how storytelling connects us and reveals our shared humanity. This passion for understanding people’s stories, combined with my own journey of self-growth and a desire to bring humor and hope to others, inspired me to pursue a career in counseling. When I’m not working, I enjoy baking pastries, trying new recipes, and exploring Chicago’s diverse restaurant scene. I have been an athlete most of my life and find balance through biking and running. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a member of the American Counseling Association.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapy style is person-centered, meaning you determine the focus of our work–you know your story best. I aim to understand your past and present to support you in moving toward where you want to go. Therapy can bring up uncomfortable feelings, but growth happens when we learn to sit with these experiences and understand them more fully. I am dedicated to supporting you in realizing your full potential. I encourage honest feedback and collaboration throughout treatment to ensure you feel empowered. I also integrate evidence-based techniques tailored to your needs. My work predominantly anchors in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). I specialize in helping individuals navigate complex anxiety and trauma by utilizing personal strengths, values, and psychoeducation.
