Margaret Johnston, LMHC

Margaret Johnston, LMHC

Psychotherapist
FL
I achieved a Master's in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Florida, 2013. I worked as a Chaplain in a hospital, achieving the 9-month Clinical Pastoral Education certification. I have experienced counseling persons living with schizophrenia, bipolar, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), and/or addictions. For 5 years, I counseled those serving time in the prison system, exhibiting anxiety, depression, grief, identity disorders, impulsivity, trauma response, and long-term (chronic) PTSD. I attempt to understand the world from the client's lens; first, to establish rapport to give the most valuable healing gift: being heard. Then, we determine what is missing & what is important (the why: purpose), how the client wants to find fulfillment (the what: set goals). Finally, we determine when we will know they are successful and can continue on their own (measures for termination). I specialize in conscious freedom mindfulness, life meaning-making, trauma harm mitigation, control need/hoarding reduction. I create an accepting, non-judgmental environment where the client feels respected and understands they will be guided, not pushed, and all decisions are in their hands as we step through all the sides or concepts they bring to the sessions. I present many resources other than myself, and utilizing CBT when appropriate, ask for 'homework/practice' to be done to help instill habits of change they desire. Flexible in my approach, I am ready to accommodate the client's needs and learn from their experience and inner wisdom.
