Maria Culcasi, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hello, my name is Maria Culcasi. I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California for nearly 20 years. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of California, Berkeley. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress. I use EMDR and CBT to help clients work through their thoughts and emotions, cope with life’s stressors, and find more ease in their lives. My approach I am client-centered, meaning I tailor therapy to what each client needs and wants. I often check in to ensure our work together is progressing and helpful. I most often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Sleep Coaching, and Mindfulness. My focus I typically work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, and current or past trauma. A little stress can be motivating—it gets us out of bed and moving toward our goals. But too little or too much stress can interfere with being our best selves and prevent our minds from feeling at ease to handle daily tasks or pursue opportunities. Often, too much stress leads to anxiety and depression. Through CBT and other modalities, we will explore your thoughts and emotions, as well as ways to boost your motivation and address barriers that may be keeping you from living the life you want. We can also use EMDR, Mindfulness, and other approaches to help you feel more at ease. My communication style I love getting to know people, which I express through my ability to listen non-judgmentally. I want to understand each person’s individuality in the calm, safe space I offer. My journey to therapy I became a psychotherapist because I enjoy listening, reflecting with people, and accompanying them on their journey to health. I have spent many years working at a community health clinic because I believe in quality health and mental health care for all.
