Mariam Hasnain, LMFT Associate

Psychotherapist
4801 Woodway Dr, Ste 115-E, Houston, TX
Who Am I? My name is Syeda Hasnain, but you can call me Mariam! I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. My connection to mental health helps me inform and advocate for my community. I attended Texas A&M University, where I earned my B.S. in Psychology, and I am currently pursuing my master's in education with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Lamar University. I began my mental health journey working as a Case Manager at a Residential Treatment Facility. I enjoyed my time there because I was able to connect with clients from various backgrounds. Why Did I Choose to Be a Therapist? I chose to become a therapist to help diversify the counseling field and provide quality care to those who historically may not have had access to therapy services. The best part of being a therapist is witnessing how far clients have come and continue to grow with every session. I focus on working with stress, anxiety, and depression because these conditions must be managed to achieve a balanced life, and they are commonly seen in our society. My commitment to clients is to ensure their sessions are productive and that their mental health and stability are optimal. I work with clients to build a safe, secure, and trusting environment where they feel empowered to decide if they want to make changes in their lives. Together, we address challenges unique to you and explore the depth and basis of those dilemmas. My role is to help facilitate change using the strategies you already possess within yourself. What Do I Do? I work with individuals, couples, and families. I enjoy supporting those suffering from grief, stress, and anxiety.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our sessions together, you can expect a therapeutic approach that is empathetic, holistic, and tailored to your unique needs. My role as a therapist is not to solve your problems, but rather to guide you in unlocking your own innate potential to navigate life's challenges. We will work collaboratively to explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, uncovering the patterns that may be holding you back and empowering you to make meaningful changes in your life. My primary areas of focus are managing stress, anxiety, and depression. These conditions are commonly encountered in today's fast-paced society, and learning to manage them effectively is key to living a balanced and fulfilling life. Confidentiality, trust, and open communication form the bedrock of my practice. Our sessions will be a safe space where you can freely express yourself without fear of judgment or reprisal. Everything we discuss will be kept strictly confidential, in accordance with professional ethical guidelines and legal requirements. Whether you're an individual, part of a couple, or a family, I am here to support you through your journey. I particularly enjoy working with those grappling with grief, stress, and anxiety. The most rewarding aspect of my work is witnessing the growth and transformation in my clients over time. Remember, therapy is a journey, and every journey begins with a single step. Your first visit will be about us getting to know each other, setting goals for our work together, and beginning the process of change. I look forward to meeting you and starting this journey together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our session will begin with a warm welcome as we settle into a comfortable space. If it's one of our early sessions, we might continue getting to know each other, or if we've been working together for some time, we'll catch up on any developments since our last session. I'll invite you to share what's been on your mind. This could be anything from recent events, feelings, thoughts, or behaviors that you've noticed. Our goal is not to judge or label these experiences, but to explore them in a supportive and confidential environment. As a therapist, my role is to guide the conversation, providing prompts and questions that can help you delve deeper into your experiences. We might explore patterns in your thoughts or behaviors, discuss strategies for managing stress or anxiety, or work on developing new coping mechanisms. Throughout this process, I encourage open communication. I believe that therapy is a collaborative effort, so your thoughts, feedback, and ideas are always valued and welcomed. Towards the end of the session, we'll summarize the main points of our discussion and identify any steps or strategies you'd like to focus on until our next meeting. We'll also set aside time to address any questions or concerns you might have. It's important to remember that therapy is a personal journey, and each session may look different depending on your unique needs and circumstances. However, what remains constant is the safe, trusting environment we create together, where you are empowered to explore and grow.
