Getting to know Marisa Rosario

Marisa Rosario is a pre-licensed provider working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner I am a Mental Health Counseling Graduate Intern at Doria Therapeutic Group, PLLC, and I strive to provide a warm, supportive, and collaborative therapeutic environment where clients feel heard, respected, and comfortable exploring their thoughts, emotions, and goals. I earned my Master of Science in Education in School Psychology from Long Island University and am currently completing an Advanced Certificate in Mental Health Counseling at LIU Post. My professional experience includes supporting children, adolescents, and families with a range of social, emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns. My clinical background includes individual and group counseling, psychological and academic assessment, behavioral support, crisis intervention, and helping clients and families connect with appropriate community resources. I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and have completed 40 hours of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training. I take an individualized, strengths-based approach to therapy and incorporate evidence-based strategies to help clients improve emotional regulation, strengthen coping skills, improve communication, and navigate life transitions and other challenges. I believe therapy should be a collaborative process, and I work with clients to identify meaningful goals and develop practical skills they can use in their everyday lives. My goal is to help clients feel supported, empowered, and better equipped to manage stress, emotional challenges, relationship concerns, and periods of change. I believe meaningful progress begins by creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship where clients can feel comfortable being themselves.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients can expect me to be warm, supportive, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. I work to create a comfortable space where you can feel heard and understood while also being encouraged to explore patterns, develop insight, and build practical skills that support meaningful change. My approach is individualized and strengths-based, meaning I tailor our work to your unique needs, experiences, and goals. I may incorporate strategies informed by Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), emotional regulation skills, coping strategies, mindfulness, and other evidence-based approaches depending on what is most helpful for you. I believe therapy works best as a partnership. Together, we will identify your goals, explore challenges at a pace that feels manageable, and develop tools you can use both during and outside of sessions. My goal is to help you feel supported while also building greater confidence, self-awareness, and resilience.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our first few sessions, I focus on getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and learning more about your experiences, strengths, concerns, and goals. We will work together to identify the areas you would like to focus on and develop a treatment approach that feels supportive and relevant to your needs. A typical session may include checking in on how you have been feeling, discussing current concerns or recent experiences, exploring thoughts and emotions, and identifying patterns that may be contributing to stress or other challenges. Depending on your goals, we may also practice coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, mindfulness techniques, communication skills, or other practical tools that you can use between sessions. I view therapy as a collaborative process, so sessions are tailored to what is most helpful for you while still keeping your overall treatment goals in mind. As therapy progresses, we will regularly review your progress, discuss what is working, and adjust our approach as needed.
